Difference Between Advice and Advise

‘Advice’ is used as a noun whereas Advise’ is used as a verb.

For example: You must follow his advice.

You must act on his advice.

I gave him a piece of advice last week.

Advice is freely given but rarely taken.

Advised: I advised him to take the test.

He has been advised complete rest.

He advised me not to go there.


The word ‘adviser’ is spelt with an ‘s’. It is also spelt ‘advisor’. There is a difference in pronunciation between ‘advice’ and ‘advise’. The ‘c’ in ‘advice’ is pronounced ‘s’. The ‘s’ in advise, advised, advisor, adviser, advisable and advisory is pronounced ‘z’.
