The word 'Journal' originally referred to a daily publication that detailed what had occurred the day before. Like a newspaper, it was. The phrase is now used to describe any publication that is released on a regular basis. A journal, for instance, can be published monthly, quarterly, etc.
A journal's articles are often intellectual, serious, and focused on a certain subject. We have the Journal of Writing, for instance, and the Journal of Linguistics, among others. On the other hand, a 'magazine' deals with a variety of topics, including politics, entertainment, and sports. The articles are significantly shorter and frequently accompanied by graphics because they are written for the general audience. In contrast to journals, magazines such as "Outlook," "Frontline," and "Sport Star" are published on a regular basis.
